Melissa and I had to scrap our original plans for Mount Katahdin.  Our failed planning left us nearly 3.5 hours away from the hike while in Acadia and we had to forfeit our original ideas of getting that hike in.  The hike today may have almost made up for it!

Ann has graciously agreed to watch our kids for the day so we still took advantage of it.  We decided to hike one of the hardest hikes in the area and hike up the side of a mountain (with some scrambling required).  Yes, the picture does show the type of trail in front of me as I take that picture.  The hike brought us up to the top of the mountain called Mount Champlain, just East of Cadillac Mountain.  The view was tremendous and the hike was just short enough that we didn’t feel over worked.  It’s definitely one of those hikes you hope to remember for a lifetime.

The rest of the day we took more advantage of our time together and went for a late lunch to The Thirsty Whale in Bar Harbor.  It was our last stop at a local restaurant and may have been the best.  I got the Blackened Fried Haddock Sandwich with a bowl of Lobster bisque soup and it was excellent!  Some window shopping and an ice cream cone later, we headed back to our kids and Ann who made a slew of cool Halloween decorations specially made for our road home.  The kids even fulfilled their Jr Ranger badges and got one more pin to add to their vest.
